Motherwell went down 3-0 to English League One side Bradford City in a pre-season friendly at Grangemouth on Tuesday afternoon.

The first chance of the match fell to the Fir Parkers, Louis Moult firing over from outside the box after being set up by Joe Chalmers.

Chalmers was involved again three minutes later, earning a corner from which Stephen McManus’s header hit the bar.

Ex-Hibernian, Inverness Caley Thistle and St Johnstone player Filipe Morais missed the visitors’ first chance in 22 minutes, failing to convert after good play by Joe Brennan.

However Brennan’s match didn’t last much longer as he was stretchered off to be replaced by Christopher Routis.

’Well were inches away from taking the lead in the 32nd minute as Louis Laing’s header was cleared off the line.

Two minutes from half-time Bradford threatened again when a Motherwell clearance from a free-kick was met by Fotheringham but his volley was well over.

However the visitors did make the breakthrough on first-half stoppage time when Luke James set up Greg Leigh to sell Dan Twardzik a dummy before netting.

After the break Laing did well to deflect a Routis effort over the bar and Bradford’s former Partick Thistle defender Conrad Balatoni also went close as the visitors threatened to increase their advantage.

Motherwell had a chance to level in 58 minutes when Moult created an opening for Ross MacLean but he sent his shot over the top.

Both sides then made a number of changes and three of the EIGHT Bradford subs combined to put the Yorkshire side two ahead in 63 minutes.

Tony McMahon and Billy Knott combined at a free-kick before the ball was played to Alan Sheehan who hammed it home from the edge of the box.

Bradford were well in command now and went three up seven minutes later, James Hanson powering home a header from a McMahon corner.

Pushing for at least a consolation goal, Motherwell had a penalty claim for handball waved away by referee Stephen Finnie before Moult set up a chance for Craig Moore who shot wildly over.

Josh Morris then had the ball in the Motherwell net again but on this occasion the ‘goal’ was disallowed because Sheehan had failed to keep the ball in play during the build-up.

Motherwell: Twardzik, Hammell (Thomas 52), Laing (Ainsworth 61), McManus, Pearson (Leitch 74), Lasley (Ferguson 74), Chalmers (Watt 69), Law, Clarkson (Kennedy 61), Moult, MacLean (Moore 61).
