Junior sides Bellshill Athletic and Thorniewood United will be hoping to get the new year off to winning start with victories in their opening fixtures of 2015 this Saturday.

Weather permitting, Thorniewood travel down to Ayrshire to face Maybole in a Super League First Division clash.

And Bellshill have a home Central First Division clash against Lanarkshire rivals Wishaw Juniors at Fullarton Park to prepare for.

Both sides were left on the sidelines last week when frozen conditions forced the postponement of Thorniewood’s scheduled game against Neilston at Robertson Park and Bellshill’s match at Renfrew.

That meant Thorniewood ended the year bottom of the table but a recent improvement in recent results has brought them closer to their relegation rivals.

However they could face a tough test against Maybole who are third in the table and who won 3-1 when the sides met at Robertson Park in October.

In contrast with their local rivals Bellshill sit top of the table as they chase promotion to the Super League.

Athletic are four points clear and are unbeaten in the league since their opening day defeat at Maryhill, a run of 10 games which have yielded eight wins and two draws.

However they have played more games than the sides below them.

They will be confident of victory against a Wishaw side who are second bottom of the table, having won just one of their 11 games so far.

The sides have already met once this season, Bellshill winning 3-1 at Wishaw in September.

Both Saturday’s games will kick-off at 1.45pm.
