New Stevenston kickboxer Jamie McGinnis faces being on the sidelines until at least the end of the year after doctors confirmed he’s torn the ACL in his right knee.
The injury occurred as he beat Zltko Traichov Gadzchev for the world amateur lightweight title last month.
Jamie waited until knowing his baby son Charlie had a successful kidney operation before concentrating on himself.
He said: “I probably made things worse by continuing to fight on the leg and then rushing up and down to Yorkhill for Charlie when I was told to rest it.
“I was fitted with a brace on Monday and I’m like the mechanical man now. It’s frustrating everything has been put on hold, but I guarantee I will be back.”
