MOTHERWELL referee John Beaton has been chosen to take charge of this season's Scottish Junior Cup final.
At the age of 27, he will be the youngest referee in living memory to take charge of the final, to be played on Sunday, May 31, at Rugby Park in Kilmarnock.
In 2007 John was promoted to Category 2 and that season was assistant referee at a Scottish Junior Cup semi-final.
A few weeks ago he was chosen to referee the Old Firm reserve match at Ibrox and he will now follow in the footseps of his cousin Steven Nicholls who refereed the final three years ago.
