Two goals by Kevin Fotheringham earned Colville Park a coveted place in the final against Fife outfit Leven United at Hampden Park on Sunday, May 22.

Colville Park AFC secretary Andy Williamson said: “It means everything to us to reach this final.

“Every season the aim is to do well in the majors, especially the Scottish Amateur Cup.

“The final is being played at Hampden for the first time in many years, which makes it even more special.

“We respect Leven United but we are hoping to win it. If we play to our potential we can do so.”

Colville Park managed victory in the semi-final despite going a goal down after 20 minutes when Possil netted a 20-yard free-kick in brilliant style.

The Motherwell outfit still trailed 1-0 at the interval, but the half-time team talk by manager Michael Kennedy clearly did the trick as they were much improved in the second period.

Fotheringham equalised with a stylish free-kick of his own on 65 minutes, before the winner arrived when he headed home after a free-kick from the right.

Colville Park could have won by more goals but the usually deadly David McKay failed to convert two chances when he was clean through on the Possil keeper.

Possil missed their last chance to equalise when a late corner sailed over the heads of everyone in the penalty – including the Possil keeper and went out for a goal kick.

Colville Park, beaten Scottish Amateur Cup finalists in 2012, ’13 and ‘14, followed that up with a disappointing early exit in last year’s tournament.

Their one and only success in the competition came 40 years ago in season 1975-’76.

Colville Park’s next fixture will be their West of Scotland Cup semi-final against Goldenhill at New Douglas Park on April 15.
