KEITH Lasley grabbed his first goal of the season to earn Motherwell just their second home win of the season in a five goal thriller on Saturday.

The last meeting between ’Well and Ross County at Victoria Park on the opening day of the season saw both sides cancel each other out.

But this was a much more open affair as both sides threw away a lead before the hosts eventually secured all three points.

Rocco Quinn showed a little bit of his quality in the opening minutes as he tried to chip Lee Hollis from the edge of the box, but his effort was just over.

However, the former Hamilton Accies forward made no mistake in 17 minutes as QUINN smashed a swerving drive past the stand-in goalkeeper from a similar distance.

The lead only lasted eight minutes as Mark Brown denied Henrik Ojamaa, but the ball ran out for Chris Humphrey to cross from the right and MICHAEL HIGDON got above Ross Tokely to send a towering header into the net.

Jamie Murphy then should have given ’Well the lead as Ojamaa’s through ball was cut back by Lasley, but 10 yards out Murphy blazed over.

At the other end Quinn slipped in Gary Glen who thought about rounding Hollis, but was pushed too far wide and his shot from an ever narrowing angle was comfortable for the ’keeper.

’Well went ahead just two minutes after the break as NICKY LAW picked up a loose ball from Quinn and ran unchallenged from the halfway line into the box before slotting past Mark Brown.

Hollis had to show quick reactions to preserve the lead as Glen tried to redirect a Tokely header, but the ’keeper did enough to knock it over the top and a free header from Colin McMenamin from Iain Vigurs’s resultant corner was over.

Tom Hateley came close to giving ’Well a two goal lead, but his curling free-kick was just over, while at the other end Glen had the ball in the net but was flagged offside.

On 69 minutes the equaliser did come as QUINN’s first effort was blocked by Law, but from the rebound his shot deflected off Adam Cummins and found a way past Hollis.

Higdon and Law were both withdrawn with knocks as it looked like ’Well might be settling for a point, but seven minutes form time the winner came as Humphrey’s low cross was miskicked by Bob McHugh, but fell kindly for LASLEY to score.

In stoppage time Hollis assured the win, ’Well’s first at home since the start of September, with a point blank save from a McMenamin header who then put the rebound into the side netting.

The result saw ‘Well climb to third in the SPL, the perfect tonic ahead of Aberdeen’s visit to Fir Park in last night’s (Tuesday) Scottish Cup replay.
