THE Olympic spirit was still very much alive when Motherwell AC held their club track and field championships at Wishaw Sports Centre on Sunday.
Inspired by the wonderful events of London 2012, members decided to have an Olympic theme which added colour to an otherwise grey, rainy day.
Janice Eaglesham, from Glasgow’s Red Star AC, brought along her Olympic torch and the event started with the athletes parading around the track complete with torch and flags.
The action began with the road runners’ handicapped 3,000m which was won by Jim Tracey and Phyllis Hands.
A programme of track and field included 80m races for the club’s youngest athletes, 100m for 12-plus, long jump, javelin, shot putt, 600m and 800m.
The day ended with medley relays in mixed age groups.
Thanks goes to all the athletes, parents and coaches for their support throughout the season.
