FOLLOWING Andy Murray’s superb achievement in winning Olympic Gold in tennis, one of our readers says more should be done to capitalise on his success.
In this week’s issue Archibald McCunn looks back to the days immediately after the Second World War when there were some 30 tennis courts in Motherwell alone.
And he says Andy’s example could provide a golden opportunity to stimulate interest in the sport - and calls on North Lanarkshire Council to take the initiative and lead the way with more facilities.
But what do you think? Can the success of Andy and other Olympic stars inspire more people to take up tennis or other sports? Or is there simply not enough long-term interest to justify the outlay? E-mail us at email@example.com or comment on our Facebook page or Twitter.
