Revealed: Rickie Lamie's aims for the final eight Motherwell league games this season

Motherwell defender Ricki Lamie is hoping that the solidity and tactical nous the Steelmen displayed in spades in Paisley on Wednesday night can be replicated in the eight league games remaining this season.

Lamie, flawless as ’Well restricted sixth placed St Mirren to virtually no chances in a hard fought 0-0 draw, knows the previous two results and performances – which resulted in heavy defeats to Hamilton Accies and St Johnstone – were unacceptable but hopes that the Dossers can now put such nightmare days behind them in the Premiership run-in.

The Paisley point puts Motherwell onto 29 points from 30 games, five points clear of the danger area, ahead of this Saturday’s trip to Hibernian.

“You try not to look at it in terms of points and positions,” Lamie said post match on Wednesday.

"But in terms of performances it's justified that we’re there over the past two or three weeks.

"But beforehand I think we were doing the right things and we went back to that tonight.

"You need to look at it in terms of: ‘The only way is up’ and if you keep putting in the performances and the determination as we did tonight you always give yourself the platform to go and pick up points.

"The aim for the last eight games is to apply ourselves exactly as we did tonight.

"I said that to the boys after the game. You go and put that effort level in the nobody can be disheartened.

"Even if the result isn't three points and it’s just the point, it’s another clean sheet, it’s a strong performance and it’s a statement of intent.

"We need to carry that on the rest of the games. We have a couple of games now then go into the split.

"We really need to be confident and end this season on a high because it’s clear to see it’s not been good enough at points but we need to push on again as we were the last couple of weeks and hopefully the quality will shine through.”
