Lidl is recalling some chicken nuggets due to salmonella contamination

Lidl is recalling two of its chicken products after salmonella was found in some of the batches.

Customers who have purchased the affected products are being asked to return them to stores.

Which batch is affected?

The recall extends to the Red Hen Breaded Chicken Nuggets and Southern Fried Chicken pops. The affected batches are as follows:

Red Hen Breaded Chicken Nuggets

  • Pack size: 450g
  • Best-before-end date: February 2022

Red Hen Southern Fried Chicken Pops

  • Pack size: 2110g
  • Best-before-end date: 5 February 2022

Symptoms of salmonella poisoning

If you consume food that has been contaminated by salmonella, you will start to feel unwell within around 12 to 36 hours after.

Symptoms typically include:

  • Fever
  • Diarrhoea
  • Abdominal cramps
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Feeling generally unwell - such as feeling tired or having aches and chills

These symptoms usually clear within three to seven days of eating the food that caused the infection.

Advice for customers

Lidl has said that salmonella has only been found in this particular batch and no other products have been affected.

In a statement, the supermarket said, “If you have bought any of the available products do not consume them. Instead, return them to a Lidl GB store for a full refund, with or without a receipt.

“Alternatively, dispose of the product and email [email protected], including a photo of the affected product with best-before date and lot code.

“The team will process this refund via letter.”
