Bellshill Army Reservist Private William McGregor (18) has been taking part in an intensive three-week training package.
The Edinburgh-based course is designed for the recruits to be trained to the same standard as their Regular counterparts.
William serves with 221 Transport Squadron, 154 (Scottish) Transport Regiment RLC which has its base at Clydesmill Drive, Carmyle.
William, a former pupil of Cardinal Newman High School, said: “I’m thoroughly enjoying the exercise. I joined the Reserves to better myself, and to experience new things.
“I’m also meeting new people, getting fitter, and there will be lots of travel.
“It was great to attend the passing out during the parade at Redford Barracks, Edinburgh, on Sunday as a fully trained Phase One soldier.”
Officer Commanding the exercise, Major Richard Barker, added: “It is all about learning by doing, so the recruits have been taking part in a number of exercises that have tested them in realistic conditions.
“It is hard work, but they work as part of a team and are trained to encourage and support each other.”
