Organisers of the fun-filled event are calling on everyone who has been touched by the care and support provided by the Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre to get involved and don their best and brightest yellow fancy dress at this year’s walk on Sunday, August 28.

And, to launch the appeal, Glaswegian actress Laura and ambassador for Beatson Cancer Charity, famous for many roles including Lydia in Breaking Bad, joined supporters of the charity, former patients of the Beatson and family members to take a walk by Kelvingrove Museum, one of the landmarks on the route, in their fun yellow fancy dress.

Laura said: “It’s an honour to be part of this special event.

“Cancer affects the lives of so many people and Beatson Cancer Charity does such a wonderful job at helping make those difficult times families face that little bit easier. That’s why I will be going Off The Beatson Track to celebrate the charity’s amazing success. Anyone can sign up – family, friends, even dogs.”

The six-and-a-half-mile, fully-accessible walk will start and finish at Riverside Museum and take in some of the iconic sights of Glasgow’s West End including the Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre that the charity works so hard to support.

There will be lots of entertainment to keep all the walkers and crowds entertained throughout the day, including a live set from Capital FM Scotland presenter Garry Spence.

William Oviatt, fundraiser at Beatson Cancer Charity said: “Last year our fantastic participants raised £140,000 to help support Beatson patients and their families – we’re hoping that this year will be even bigger and better.

“There will be a real party atmosphere on the day and we hope to see a sea of yellow making its way through Glasgow’s West End again.”

All funds raised from the event will help the charity provide specialist staff posts including nursing, radiography, physics and research-based staff as well as funding enhanced medical equipment, innovative service developments and novel research projects to support the 8000 new patients who attend the Beatson and its satellite locations each year.
