Mossend played host to a special visitor last week in the form of Asta Skaisgiryte-Liauskiene, Lithuanian Ambassador to the UK.
She was welcomed by the Lithuanians in Scotland Association to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the restoration of the independent state of Lithuania.
The group, mostly from around Glasgow and Lanarkshire, meets regularly in the Scottish Lithuanian Cultural & Social Club in Mossend.
After a guided tour of the club by president Harry Curran the ambassador was treated to a recital of music from the homeland.
She said: “I am very happy to come to meet the local Lithuanian community. This year Lithuania is celebrating the 25th anniversary of restored independence but Lithuanians were coming to Scotland since the beginning of the 20th century. They integrate easily into the Scottish population and are known as delightful and hard working people.”
