A consultation is currently underway to create a new £2m Forgewood Family Learning Centre.
At present provision in the main Fife Drive building is supplemented by an annexe in Braidhurst High.
A public meeting in Cathedral Primary heard the proposed new facility could be built in Talisman Crescent and open in August 2018.
Motherwell West councillors Paul Kelly and Michael Ross welcomed the news.
Councillor Kelly said: “This is great news for the people of Forgewood, the new purpose built facility will provide a safe, secure and inspiring high quality early learning and childcare environment.
“There will be improved opportunities for staff to share best practice and for children to experience a wider range of learning and teaching.”
Councillor Ross added: “I know from my discussions with local parents they have struggled with the current set up of nursery provision split over two areas.
“The opportunity of a brand new state of the art nursery in Forgewood will benefit the local area.“
