Tribute has been paid to an employee killed in an accident at a Mossend coal depot.

Depot supervisor Margaret Corcoran (66) was struck by a vehicle at Fergusson Coal’s yard in Holytown Road.

Police and the Health and Safety Exeuctive are investigating the tragedy which happened on Tuesday afternoon.

Mrs Corcoran, who worked at the site for 10 years, is believed to have lived in Holytown.

Mossend depot manager John Macauley said: “Our thoughts are with Margaret’s family at this very difficult time.

“I personally had known Margaret for 10 years. She was a popular and respected colleague and we are all devastated by this tragic accident.

“We continue to co-operate fully with the police and the Health & Safety Executive during their investigation into the circumstances.”

A police spokesman said: “Police and emergency services were called to a report of a 66-year-old woman having been seriously injured around 4pm on Tuesday.

“The death is not being treated as suspicious and a report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal. An investigation into the circumstances is ongoing between Police Scotland and the Health and Safety Executive.”
