Hamilton Sheriff Court bail order was breached.

A Mossend man defied a court order and crept into a house through a window before threatening a woman with a knife he picked up in the kitchen.

Ross Welsh had been told to stay away from Nicole Blyth after getting bail, but turned up at a house in East Kilbride.

Welsh (23), of Main Street, appeared at Hamilton Sheriff Court last week and admitted breaching bail conditions imposed at the same court on December 15.

He denied assaulting Ms Blyth at the house on February 19, but was found guilty after trial. The court heard he brandished a knife, pushed her to the floor then punched and kicked her.

Defence agent Jim O’Dowd said Welsh had “significant problems”, made worse by his drug taking.

Sheriff Shiona Waldron ordered Welsh, who had been in custody since February 22, to be supervised for a year and get alcohol and drugs counselling as an alternative to more jail time.

The sheriff described his conduct as “truly shocking”.
