THIEVES stole a parcel delivery van after dragging the driver from the vehicle while it was parked outside a shop in Uddingston last week.
Police are investigating the theft which took place in Old Edinburgh Road, shortly after the driver drove into a car park and parked outside Oscar’s chip shop.
As he was sitting in his van, a white Mercedes Sprinter, a man approached the vehicle, pulled open the door and dragged him out.
The suspect then got into the van and another man got in the passenger side before the vehicle was driven off at speed along Old Edinburgh Road and ditched in Maryville Lane.
Officers believe the parcels from the van were then stolen and transferred into another vehicle.
The 25 year-old van driver was not injured in the incident but he has been left badly shaken.
Detectives would like hear from anyone who may have seen something suspicious in the area, in particular the white van being driven at speed or any other vehicle which was being driven particularly fast at the time of the incident.
The suspect who pulled the driver from the van is described as aged 30-40 and wearing a yellow fluorescent jacket with a black hood. The second was wearing a fluorescent jacket.
Officers have been carrying out door-to-door enquiries in the area and Detective Constable Paul Brown said: “We know that the men stole the parcels from the van.
“This means they would have had to transfer them into another vehicle.
“We want to trace these men and locate the parcels so that they can be returned to their rightful owners.
“I’m appealing to anyone who may have seen anything suspicious or noticed the white Mercedes van or any other vehicle in that area at the time being driven particularly fast to get in touch with us.”
