Switch needed to attract new client to EE site

Operated by mobile phone company EE Ltd, the station in Masterton Way is now becoming obsolete with the move away from second-generation (2G) wireless technology in the UK and cannot be upgraded.

London-based property management firm Chancerygate has applied to North Lanarkshire Council for a change of use to Classes 4 (Business), 5 (General Industry) and 6 (Storage and Distribution).

The overall size of the site is 3,700 sq m, which includes 20 parking spaces, and the floor area of the building itself will remain at 1,612 sq m.

A spokesperson said: “This property is operated by EE Ltd as a telecommunications mobile switching centre.

“The equipment and technology used in the property has reached the end of its economic life and the property is surplus to requirements.

“The mobile switching equipment will shortly be removed from inside the property.

“We are proposing to convert the property back to its original use of Classes 4,5 and 6 and have therefore submitted an application to change the use so the property can used for either of these uses.

“ The final user is not yet known, hence the flexibility requested in the proposed uses.”
