BELLSHILL residents have voted overwhelmingly to go-ahead with proposals for a new skatepark in the town.

One hundred and five residents responded to an online survey organised by the North Lanarkshire Partnership detailing plans for a wheeled sports facility in the area.

More than 93 per cent of respondents expressed a wish for the recreation feature, with the majority wanting it to be located next to the Sir Matt Busby Sports Centre.

Councillor Harry McGuigan said: “We are delighted with the response to the survey and after looking closely at the results, we now look forward to developing site plans to take this initiative forward.

“When completed, it will provide a fantastic recreation area for youngsters in the town.”

The survey results also showed most respondents wanted skateboarding and BMX facilities which would incorporate a bowl for younger children, ramps, fun boxes and quarter pipe features.
