EMERGENCY services rushed to a blaze at a Muirhouse shop early on Monday morning.
A member of staff arrived at the Costcutter store on Muirhouse Road around 6am and raised the alarm.
Firefighters tackled the fire using an aerial pump and stripped away damaged sections of the burning roof.
Thankfully no one was injured as a result of the blaze and no other shops within the block were affected.
The building is owned by North Lanarkshire Council. A spokesperson for the authority said: “It is our building and is leased to the Costcutter store.
“The fire seems to have started in the early hours of Monday morning and was discovered when a member of staff opened up the shop in the morning.
“The main damage is to the back shop area and the roof. The main area of the shop itself has very little damage.
“As yet, we don’t know the cause of the fire. We are arranging for an inspection of the roof area and will probably cover with a tarpaulin in the short term, before we can start work to repair the building. There is no damage to any other shops in the area.”
