Shining a spotlight on overlooked dogs

During National Adoption Week, which runs until Sunday, the charity is using the hashtag #ADogShone to highlight pooches that are often overlooked.

Supporters will also be encouraged to post pictures of their dogs to show the joy a happy home can have on a dog’s life.

Rehoming Centre manager Sandra Lawton: “We really hope to influence people’s perceptions with #ADogShone because it’s important that every dog gets to experience a loving home, no matter what age they, what they look like or other personal circumstances which may cause them to be overlooked.”

Dogs Trust’s Home from Home Foster Scheme was developed to give dog lovers who are not in a position to adopt on a permanent basis, the opportunity to experience the rewards of dog ownership on a temporary basis and help homeless hounds experience life in a home environment.

Sandra said: “If you don’t have the time to permanently adopt a dog, our Home from Home foster scheme allows families to rehome dogs temporarily so they can experience what it’s like to be part of a family home.“

A foster home has helped Rosco, a two-year-old Staffordshire Cross, as awaits a new permanent owner.

Sandra said: “Rosco loves attention, so having a foster home has really helped bring out his character. He has been described by his foster carer as friendly and energetic, with a good sense of humour.

“Dogs like Rosco have made great companions for families while they wait on their forever home.”

Foster care placements range from as little as one week to nine months.
