MOTHERWELL residents are being encouraged to photograph something that makes them smile.
The Motherwell Community Forum has launched a photography competition in an attempt to promote the importance of good health.
Entrants in the competition, entitled Things That Make Me Happy, have the chance to win gift card prizes.
Forum chairman Felix Mulholland (pictured) explained: “The importance of mental health cannot be underestimated. We wanted to encourage the wider community to help us get this message across in a fun way.
“Mental health affects how we feel about ourselves and others, and how we interpret the things which happen to us in our everyday lives.
“It also affects our capacity to learn, communicate and influences how we cope with change and major life events.
“Poor mental health can also have a negative impact on our physical health.”
To enter the competition, participants are asked to submit a photo of something that makes them happy such as their favourite place, an occasion they enjoyed or someone who makes them happy.
It is open to everyone aged five and above, with age groups to ensure fairness.
