YOUNGSTERS at Ladywell Primary School in Motherwell have made a bumper donation to charity in memory of a former pupil.

As reported in the Times, Caden Beggan (6) sadly passed away in November following a battle with meningococcal septicaemia at Yorkhill Hospital in Glasgow.

During his time at the hospital, friends and pupils at Ladywell embarked on a number of fundraising events and donated over £1,000 to Yorkhill.

And they have just made a massive donation of £7,000 from the proceeds of a single recorded by the choir and released through iTunes to Meningitis Research Scotland.

It comes after bus operator First donated a pirate ship for Ladywell’s playground.

Headteacher Pat Ashworth said: “We dedicated our fundraising song and 90 per cent of the proceeds to the memory of Caden by donating to Meningitis Research Scotland and only taking 10 per cent of the profits for the school fund.

“We have also introduced an art award which will be awarded each year to the most promising artist in the school.

“We recently held a memorial type assembly for Caden. It was a happy and sad event which brought the whole community together and celebrated Caden’s life and shared our memories with everyone.

“The assembly had a purpose and meant something to each person who was there.

“A special thank you to First Bus Company who have given the school something to help us remember Caden in a very special way.”
