CONTROVERSIAL plans to scrap school buses for secondary pupils from August look likely to be shelved.
A meeting of North Lanarkshire Council’s ruling Labour group decided on Monday night not to pursue the cut and to keep the current service operating for another year.
A spokesman for North Lanarkshire Council said: “The administration have informed the chief executive they do not intend to pursue the savings option around the reduction in school transport mileage limits.
“This decision has still to be approved by the council. The £1 million saving can be met this year from the budget surplus achieved in 2010/11.”
