CATHEDRAL Primary has joined forces with fast-food giants McDonald’s in a bid to earn to its third eco flag.
The school already proudly flys two ‘green’ flags from Eco School’s Scotland and is now concentrating on the topics of community work and litter in a bid to claim number three.
To this end the school contacted the McDonald’s fast food joint in Motherwell town centre for its assistance, as the company is one of the major supporters of Keep Britain Tidy’s The Big Tidy Up campaign.
It was decided to clean up part of the Greenlink near the school and surrounding streets after pupils using the cycle path expressed their concerns at the amount of litter. The project was seen as a good way to help the community.
Principal teacher Gillian Shearer assembled a crack squad of eco-committee members and they were joined by McDonald’s staff, who not only provided muscle, but also took along protective vests, water and fruit bags.
