Sainsbury’s have submitted a planning application to North Lanarkshire Council for a store on Hamilton Road, Motherwell.

This comes after the company held a drop-in session at Fir Park at which over 120 stakeholders and residents took the opportunity to view detailed plans of the proposed development.

Jeff Wilson, regional town planning manager for Sainsbury’s, said: “We were pleased that so many local residents attended our drop-in session last Wednesday. One of the key things we were communicating is the decision to include a petrol station in our submission, which is due to the high level of support the petrol station received at our last round of public exhibitions in August.

“We look forward to continuing to engage with the local community throughout the planning application process.”

The proposed development, which is located at the former bus depot site on the corner of Hamilton Road and Airbles Road, could create up to 300 full and part-time jobs.

Plans for the site include a 60,000 sq ft Sainsbury’s store with ample parking and a petrol filling station.
