BELLSHILL woman Elaine Stewart is set to cycle more than 300 miles in a bid to raise £1,500 for Rethink Mental Illness.
Elaine (33) and best friend Leigh Dobson (32) from Partick will embark on the 327-mile route from Stobhill in Glasgow on Sunday, aiming to arrive in Scunthorpe, Lincolnshire, a week later.
The challenge is in memory of Elaine’s cousin Stephen Currie, who took his own life in 2010 at the age of 42.
Elaine said: “Stephen was a true inspiration and a friend to anyone who knew him. He had anxiety and depression for many years and Rethink Mental Illness supported him and his family during difficult times.
“We’re cycling this route because Stephen was born in Stobhill Hospital in Glasgow and lived the rest of his life in Scunthorpe.
“We’re also doing it to say ‘thank you’ to Rethink Mental Illness for all the work it does to improve the lives of all those affected.”
Jane Harris from Rethink Mental Illness added: “We’re touched by Elaine and Leigh’s efforts and we wish them all the luck in the world.”
