WEEKS of delays for motorists in Motherwell are set to end tomorrow afternoon when work costing more than £500,000 to improve the gas network is completed.
Scotland Gas Networks began upgrading the iron gas mains in the town centre back in late August. Congestion has increased in the area due to the work being centred around Merry Street, Mill Road and Dalziel Street.
Merry Street was closed in one direction, meaning diversions for drivers going to New Stevenston, Carfin, Newarthill and Holytown.
One lane remained open for drivers travelling from these areas to the town centre.
SGN say Mill Road will be closed for another two weeks for additional works. A spokeswoman for SGN said: “Merry Street is due to be completed on time. ”
