A MOTHERWELL church hope a book published by the Motherwell Times will help them to raise funds more than 35 years later.
In 1975 we printed a book of poetry by acclaimed Motherwell artist Roy Ferguson called ‘Once Familiar Ways’, with the foreward written by Magnus Magnusson, best known as the host of Mastermind.
Roy, a prolific painter, caricaturist and illustrator, lived in Manse Road for many years prior to his death in 1981 and now a signed copy of the book has mysteriously turned up at nearby Motherwell South Parish Church.
Church member Barbara Craig said: “We have an orange bag in the hall for people to put donations into and one day it was in there.
“We don’t really know where it came from, but we suspect that as Roy lived so locally that it has been a neighbour who has asked him to sign it at some point.
“He was a great artist and we hope that selling the book will give our fundraising efforts a boost as we look at developing the buildings.”
If anyone would like to make Barbara an offer to buy the book call 01698 263954.
