Pupils of Muir Street Primary are flying the flag for the fifth time in 10 years and headteacher Anna McKinney could not be more proud of her pupils.
The school achieved Green Flag Award status for the fifth time following a visit from the Eco assessor who was impressed with Muir Street‘s environmental knowledge.
Mrs McKinney explained: “Every two years we have to be reassessed for Green Flag status.
“This is a whole school project involving all the pupils and the Eco Committee is made up of representatives from every class.
“They did an excellent job updating P1 - 3 classes with their plans.
“The Eco assessor liked the way that we carried out the Environmental Review with all classes which ensured that everyone was part of the process from the start and it is a great opportunity to put forward ideas for action.
“The assessor was impressed by the knowledge and understanding of the children and she particularly liked the use of reward stickers for pupils ‘caught’ using the bins.”
The school completed two topics on environmental matters plus a topic on litter which brought positive results.
