Pull on your boots to help hospice appeal

Motherwell FCs Chris Cadden promotes St Andrew's Hospice's Nine4Thirty campaign.

Work will start in the new year to transform the existing building in Henderson Street, Airdrie, in order to provide better services for the 120 cared for each week, but more fundraising is needed.

The Festive 5s event, supported by Find a Player, is looking for work colleagues, clubs and groups of friends to enter a team into the tournament which will take place on Thursday, December 8, from 2-5pm at Soccerworld, just off the M8, Croftcroighn Road, Glasgow.

Entry is £299 for a team of up to eight players which also includes tickets for a party event in the evening.

Hospice chief executive Bruce High said: “Our Festive 5s tournament will hopefully provide the perfect Christmas night out for friends and work colleagues and we are looking forward to a great after-event party.”

The charity has also launched the ‘Nine4Thirty’ Appeal which symbolises the £9m target as the hospice celebrates its 30th anniversary.

Mr High said: “We need as much support as possible to help raise awareness and ultimately achieve our goal.

“Our building has served us well for the past 30 years, but the delivery of hospice care has changed as well as the expectations of our patients and families for the environment in which patients are cared for and we need a upgraded environment that will cater for our patients and their families for the next 30 years and beyond.”

St Andrew’s provides multidisciplinary support for patients, their families and carers.

Plans for the new hospice building will see the existing façade retained, but internally it will be transformed to increase the number of single bedded rooms which will be available alongside multi-occupancy rooms.

The rooms will also provide the comforts of home, and have direct access and views to the gardens, with some offering space for loved ones to stay overnight.

In addition, a separate patient entrance will be created providing discreet admission to the wards.
