Police have named the Motherwell mum who died last night when she was hit by a car as she walked her dog.
Linda Carson (44) was struck by a silver Ford Mondeo. The vehicle is believed to have mounted the pavement in Muirhouse Road.
The crash happened outside Grange Tower shortly after 8pm. Emergency services attended but the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
Linda lived with her husband, Robert, and 11-year-old daughter, Gemma, in Gresham View, less than five minutes walk from the scene of the fatality.
A woman playing bingo at a nearby church hall described hearing a loud bang.
She said: “We ran out to see what had happened. People were already there, trying to help. The woman was on the ground - she wasn’t moving.”
A neighbour said: “We heard Linda’s phone number was on her dog’s collar and that’s how they tracked Robert.
“He and his daughter went straight to the scene. What a horrendous thing for them to go through.”
Sergeant John Tait, of Motherwell road policing unit, appealed for witnesses to call 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
It’s understood that while no one has been arrested in connection with the tragedy police are following a positive line of enquiry.
