Around 120 children gathered at St Mary’s Parish Church in Motherwell last week to take part in the church summer club’s ‘Commonwealth Games’.
Jennifer Bradshaw, Hazel Graham and Karen Maxwell led the enthusiastic team and athletes Stuart Davies and Des Bradshaw were the sport coaches for the week and thanks is due to them both.
Catering was provided by June Graham, Ann Gibson and their team of helpers and was greatly appreciated by the team and the adults attending.
The children took part in many exciting activities, learning much about the Commonwealth countries, and were encouraged to think about children from these countries less fortunate than themselves.
£120 was donated to UNICEF to help in the massive fundraising initiative of the Games as a token of thanks for all they have.
They were also helped to recognise their individual talents and the importance of working as a team and being part of the family of the Church.
Finally the familiar story of the Good Samaritan was used to show how help can be given and received by people who are from different backgrounds and cultures.
