A HOUSE builder wants to slash the number of spaces it plans to build at a park and ride to serve Shieldmuir station.
As part of the 'Clydeshaw Works Masterplan' Taylor Wimpey were instructed to create a park and ride facility on land west of Excelsior Street in Netherton to compliment new housing.
Technical drawings relating to the park and ride were signed off in August 2005, however the company has now applied to North Lanarkshire Council for a 'proposed reduction of park and ride car parking provision' to cut the number of spaces from 103 to 25.
A spokesperson for Taylor Wimpey said: "In negotiation with North Lanarkshire Council's planning department, the amended planning application to provide car parking for 25 vehicles at an area west of Excelsior Street in Netherton to reflect revised plans for a nearby 'railway halt' rather than a station at this location."
The closure of Shieldmuir station was discussed in 2007 when it was proposed to reopen the old Flemington station, but this idea was dropped.
Both Network Rail, who are responsible for the infrascruture of stations, and First Scotrail, who set the timetable, deny they have any plans to make changes relating to Shieldmuir.
