TWO men caught with knives during a festival at Strathclyde Park have each been jailed at Hamilton Sheriff Court.

Barry McKeown (29) claimed the two blades he had were for fishing while Scott McCue (27) said he had forgotten there was a knife in his pocket.

But Sheriff Ray Small jailed McKeown, of Springburn, Glasgow, for 165 days while McCue, a prisoner, got 15 months. The pair admitted having knives at the park on May 5.

Sheriff Small told McKeown: “You have a previous conviction for having a knife. Here you were with friends at a public event, under the influence and carrying two knives which you tried to hide from the police.”

The sheriff said McCue’s situation was aggravated by the fact he was on early release from a High Court jail sentence.
