North and South Lanarkshire Councils join forces to host a free fireworks display in Strathclyde Park on Saturday.
The bonfire will be lit at 6.45pm and the fireworks begin at 7.30pm, with the spectacular light show reflecting over Strathclyde Loch for 30 minutes.
M&D’s funfair will be open from 4.30-8.30pm and Clyde 1 will provide live music and entertainment from 6pm.
Councillor Michael McPake, convener of the Environmental Services Committee at North Lanarkshire Council, said: “I would encourage people to come along to our free, fun and professionally organised, firework display.
“If anyone has any concerns about materials being gathered for use as an unofficial bonfire please contact Northline on 01698 403200 to have these removed.
“Fireworks can cause severe injury if they’re not handled properly so I would encourage residents to stay safe and go along to one of organised events in the area,”
Council officers, supported by Police Scotland and Scottish Fire and Rescue Service will respond to any reports of unofficial bonfires being built and safely dispose of the material prior to it being set alight.
Superintendent John McTear, Motherwell Police Office, added: “We would urge people to take care when using fireworks as inappropriate use can lead to serious injuries.
“In addition, my officers across Lanarkshire will be taking robust action against any person suspected to be underage or deemed to be using fireworks in an antisocial manner.”
Anyone who is planning to buy fireworks to use at home is strongly urged to put safety first, and only buy fireworks that meet European product safety standards.
It is an offence for young people to purchase, be in possession of, or set off fireworks.
The council’s Trading Standards Service advises that fireworks should be clearly marked with information including the name of the manufacturer or importer, the name, type and category of firework, and instructions for use. Fireworks should only be purchased from reputable retailers.
On the day of the display waiting restrictions will be in place on Hamilton Road, Airbles Road, Tinkers Lane, Greenacres, Braedale Avenue, Haughview Road and Strathclyde Road.
