Netherton-based NL Industries has been shortlisted in the Disability Confident category of the prestigious national Municipal Journal achievement awards.
NL Industries is one of five organisations whose award submission will now continue through the second stage of the judging process with the winner being announced in June.
The business has increased its turnover by over 400 per cent in the last three years due to the strong culture of employee engagement developed from within.
Disabled people aren’t just encouraged to work, but also contribute and develop in order to fulfil their potential and realise their own often unique aspirations.
Councillor Barry McCulloch, convener of Housing and Social Work Services, said: “NL Industries is a leading example of both commercial success and social responsibility.
“The business supports and employs disabled people from across communities with a focus on ability, not disability.
“NL Industries has renewed our employees self-worth, creating a development pathway for all their futures and a strong successful business which is the pride of the service, and the people of North Lanarkshire.
“It’s a fantastic achievement to be recognised as one of the top five bodies in the UK supporting disabled people in work and I’d like to pay testament to everyone involved in ensuring NL Industries is such a success.”
Municipal Journal is the UK’s leading weekly magazine focussing on what’s going on and what people are thinking in today’s world of local politics.
