Retired newsagent Des Donnelly has been honoured by his UK colleagues after more than 50 years in the trade.

The Motherwell man received a lifetime achievement award at the annual National Federation of Retail Newsagents presentation night in London.

Des ran his shop at Mossend Cross for 55 years before stepping down earlier this year.

He was described at the awards ceremony as ‘a great man and an honour to know, commanding instant respect whenever he gets to his feet’.
