The Co-operative Group are hoping to open a new food store in Motherwell as Sainsbury’s go back to the drawing board.

Although no planning application has been submitted, the Co-op is seeking permission from North Lanarkshire Council for a change of use to part of the former Halfords building on Manse Road to enable them to sell food and convenience products.

Meanwhile, Sainsbury’s are redrawing their plans for the former bus depot site off Hamilton Road in Motherwell.

Following complaints from local residents about the supermarket’s delivery bay backing on to Tinker’s Lane and lorries being asked to squeeze down the narrow street, Sainsbury’s are now in the process of coming up with alternative site plans which will now include a petrol station which was missing from the earlier proposal.

Following last week’s story about Robertson Homes’ leaflet drop in New Stevenston, Newarthill, Carfin and Holytown a redistribution has taken place after some homes were missed.

The leaflet is the company’s way of seeking support for their care home and food store plan which they hope to build near Klondike Court in New Stevenston.
