THE owners of the Brandon Shopping Centre in Motherwell have been given planning permission for a 5,000 sq ft restaurant fronting onto the Brandon Parade South car park.
The new restaurant will occupy the last remaining unlet ground-floor space in the former Asda building after North Lanarkshire Council approved the application for a change of use from ‘retail’ to ‘food and drink’.
Chester Properties, who run the centre, plan to fit windows into what is currently a blank wall onto the car park to make the unit more attractive to prospective tenants.
The council’s head of planning and development Shirley Linton said: “The proposed development is considered acceptable in relation to the policies within the North Lanarkshire Local Plan.
“It will integrate successfully with the row of shops and enhance the character of the town centre area.”
Work on the restaurant unit is due to start early next month and last for seven or eight weeks, being marketed once the work is completed.
Chester Properties director William Gear said: “This is a win-win situation for Motherwell making the centre look much more welcoming and appealing.
“And having a restaurant in such a key location will meet our ambition to widen the range of choices for shoppers.”
