A brave neighbour was hurt after he forced his way into a blazing flat in a bid to rescue a man he feared was trapped inside.
The 34-year-old was treated in hospital for smoke inhalation and minor burns.
But the neighbour he believed had perished in the fire was, in fact, outside all the time.
The fire broke out at a first floor flat in Jerviston Street, New Stevenston, on Tuesday evening.
It cause extensive damage and the road was closed as firefighters tackled the flames.
