Motorists are facing long delays this morning after a motorway crash.
The collision involved two vehicles on the M74 southbound at the Raith interchange.
Rush hour tailbacks stretched to junction 4 (Maryville) where the M73 and the M74 meet.
The incident added to the usual morning congestion in an area already affected by long-running roadworks and a 50 miles an hour speed limit.
Queues built up on adjoining roads leading to the motorway and police were preventing southbound traffic getting on to the M74 at Uddingston in a bid to ease the situation.
One frustrated driver said: “It’s chaos trying to get out of Uddingston. I was planning to use the motorway to get to Motherwell, but was turned back at the access point on Glasgow Road.
“It was a case of doing an about turn and going via Bellshill.”
