DRIVERS travelling in and out of Bellshill town centre will face further disruption next week when a stretch of the town’s Hamilton Road is closed for resurfacing work.
The road will be closed between its junctions with Crossgates and Glebe Street from midnight on Sunday.
A closure order is in place for the road to be shut until midnight next Friday, although it is hoped that the work can be completed before then.
The work is being undertaken partly to put the finishing touches to North Lanarkshire Council’s Streetscape programme for Bellshill town centre and partly under the council’s ongoing routine maintenance programme.
Diversions will be in place and vehicles which would normally approach the closed stretch from North Road and Hamilton Road, or from Glebe Street, should take alternative routes at the North Road roundabout, either via Gartcosh Walk and the A725 or via Campbell Street, Main Street and Calder Road.
Traffic which would normally travel along Hamilton Road towards Bellshill Cross should use the A725 and Gartcosh Walk while vehicles approaching the closed stretch from Crossgates will be diverted along Motherwell Road, Main Street and North Road.
