“We are always keen to support the communities we work and live in and hope this event will encourage more people to get involved in cycling and sport in general.”

This is the second year in a row that the event has been staged in Motherwell, with the races taking place over the same 1.7km circuit as last year, starting and finishing on Hamilton Road and taking in High Road, Farm Street, Ladywell Road, and Douglas Street.

Councillor Kaye Harmon, chairwoman of Motherwell and District Area Committee, said: “Thousands of people lined the streets in Motherwell last May to see the top British men’s and women’s cycling teams in action so we’re delighted to welcome back the Pearl Izumi Tour Series and Matrix Fitness Women’s Grand Prix back to Motherwell.

“On the day, local school children will be able to cycle around the circuit, before amateur races organised by Scottish Cycling and a host of family activities in the town centre for spectators to enjoy.

“It’s a fantastic opportunity to experience world class cycling close up and I would like to thanks Mears Group for supporting this great event.”

Highlights of the event will be shown on ITV4.
