The Provincial Grand Lodge of Lanarkshire Middle Ward has donated £1,400 to help in the fight against prostate cancer.
The money was raised by a collection at a joint church service and supplemented by later donations from Masonic orders across Lanarkshire.
It is going towards Prostate Scotland’s Blue Horizon Robot Appeal which aims to bring robotic assisted prostate surgery north of the border for the first time.
Bro Tom Davidson, Provincial Grand Master, said: “This type of surgery is available in England, but is new to Scotland and should improve the prospects and outcome for patients.
“Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men in Scotland with one in 11 men suffering from the disease and one in two men suffering from a prostate related disease at some time in their life.
“Freemasons are also supporting a Charity Zipslide fundraising event over the River Clyde near the Finnieston Crane on Saturday, May 14, when the organisers aim to raise £50,000 for the charity.
“We hope to have 180 Freemasons from all over Scotland taking part: currently 150 have signed up to take part in the event which is open to all persons over 16 years of age and meet the weight limitation.”
