An 85-year-old man injured in a car crash on the A73 near Newhouse on Monday has died.
Giovanni Coppolaro from St Ives in Cambridgeshire is believed to have been in Scotland for a funeral when the black Jaguar he was travelling in was involved in a collision with a silver Volkswagen Golf just after 9am.
The 54-year-old driver of the Jaguar has now been released from hospital, but Mr Coppolaro’s fellow passenger, an 83-year-old woman, remains in a critical condition at Wishaw General.
The driver of the Volkswagen Golf, a 34-year-old man, remains within Glasgow Royal Infirmary where medical staff describe his condition as stable.
A full report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal.
Sergeant Craig McDonald, Divisional Road Policing Unit, Motherwell, is re-appealing to anyone who witnessed the crash take place, or who has any information that may assist police enquiries to call on the 101 number.
