Man arrested after attempted Post Office robbery

A MAN allegedly tried to rob Muirhouse Post Office, then failed to escape police in a stolen car.

The 34-year-old is said to have demanded cash at the branch on Muirhouse Road around 3pm on Thursday, but left empty-handed.

He is then believed to have met the private seller of a vehicle in a car park on Glasgow Road, Wishaw, around 8pm.

He is reported to have asked to take the car on a test drive on his own, but then simply made off in it.

Following a number of other alleged offences outwith the Strathclyde Police force area, he was finally arrested by officers from Cumbria Police in Tebay in the early hours of Friday.

He appeared at Carlisle Magistrates Court on Saturday.
