Motherwell athletics coach Luke McIlvenna got a taste of the tough training regime that has produced some of the world’s top distance runners.
The 21-year-old student spent nine weeks at a high altitude camp in Kenya.
He joined in a programme which involved training three times a day.
Luke, a coach at Motherwell AC, said: “Before I went to Kenya I wondered what made these guys so good, but now I realise there’s no big secret. It’s all down to their simple way of life and a lot of hard work.”
See a special feature on Luke’s Kenyan adventure in this week’s Motherwell Times & Bellshill Speaker, out on Wednesday.
