Motherwell and Wishaw MP Marion Fellows and her staff paid a visit to the new Personal Independence Payment Assessment Centre in Hamilton Road, Motherwell.

Since her election, Mrs Fellows has dealt with more than 250 issues from constituents relating to social security, with PIP claims making up a high number of these.

She said: “It is important to understand just how PIP assessments are carried out.

“Although assessment staff are trained, claimants must make sure that they provide the full extent of how their conditions affect their day to day lives. The smallest detail can make the difference between a successful or unsuccessful claim.

“There has been much criticism regarding the change from Disability Living Allowance to PIP and I feel that it is important that my staff and I are best equipped to help people at what can be a stressful time for them.”
