A Holytown schoolboy drew upon his own experience of sibling rivalry to star in a heart-warming new TV advert for KFC.

Kyle McCallum (8)is currently gracing our screens in an advert for the restaurant’s new Colonel’s Brownie Bucket.

The clip, dubbed ‘Fans’, shows Kyle and his ‘dad’ attending a football match, as another youngster is shown supporting the opposite team with his mum.

The pair are revealed to be brothers and put rivalry aside to share a Brownie Bucket upon their return home.

And Kyle’s mum, Lesley, says it would have been easy for Kyle to imagine, as he and his own two brothers - Lewis (12) and Scott (10) - all support different teams in real life.

She said: “Kyle and Scott went along to a casting call after seeing an advert on Facebook. Even though they are actually brothers, the producers didn’t think they looked enough alike!

“Kyle was recalled three times before getting the part.

“He’s never done anything like this before, but they told us he was incredible. They couldn’t believe he hadn’t done any acting, and that we should look into getting him an agent.

“Even the director, Peter Cattaneo, who directed the Full Monty, was full of praise for him.”

The advert was filmed over three days, including at the match between Stirling Albion and Dunfermline on October 4.

Kyle’s character celebrated victory on-screen, with the visitors also winning 2-0 in real life.

Lesley added: “It was filmed over three days in Glasgow and Stirling.

“Kyle had a great time, and everyone from the agency, based in London, were so great with him, really welcoming and friendly.

“He loves football and is always watching it, he also plays centre-mid for the Hamilton Accies’ under 8s team as part of their academy.

“So the whole thing was just a really great experience for Kyle.

“Even though he wasn’t interested in acting before, I think he wants to do more now - especially as he got time off school for it!”

Kyle’s classmates and the teachers at Holytown Primary are delighted to see him on TV.

Headteacher Lynne Brennan said: “What exciting times for Kyle. He thoroughly enjoyed this experience, which he shared with his classmates.

“A star in the making!”
